Palm kernel oil is an edible oil derived from the kernel of the oil palm. It should not be confused with the edible oils derived from palm fruits: palm oil, extracted from the pulp of the oil palm fruit. Mechanical palm kernel oil extraction machine are suitable for both small and large palm kernel oil processing plant capacity, the three basic steps in these processes are kernel pre-treatment, screw-pressing and oil clarification.
Proper palm kernel pre-treatment is necessary to efficiently extract the oil from the kernels. The feed kernels must first be cleaned of impurity materials that may cause damage to the screw palm kernel oil press. Magnetic separators commonly are installed to remove metal debirs, while vibrating screens are used to sieve sand, stones or other undesirable materials.

2) The spiral shaft of the equipment is forged with wear-resistant alloy steel as a whole, which is not easy to wear even if the high-fiber palm kernel is pressed for a long time;
3) The feed port is equipped with a manual speed regulating device, which can adjust the pressing speed according to the different palm kernel varieties and kernel size to avoid blockage;

Some Palm Oil Mills crush the kernels directly in the palm oil press, double pressing usually is required to ensure efficient palm oil extraction. The kernel are first broken down to smaller fragments by grinding prior to screw pressing. In some cases, cooking is also carried out.
Working Process of Palm Kernel Oil Extraction Line:
Palm kernel oil solvent extraction process can be divided into three main operations: kernel pre-treatment, oil extraction, and solvent recovery from the oil and meal. For the purposes of small scale operations, it is sufficient. The solvent extraction process is an alternative for large capacity palm oil mills. However the process is not recommended for small palm oil plant. (1) Palm Kernel Cleaning:
Palm kernel cleaning machine is mainly used to remove iron wire, stone, fiber and other impurities in palm kernel. These impurities are easy to damage the machine, especially the palm kernel oil press;
(2) Palm Kernel Crushing Machine:
Palm kernels generally need to be crushed twice, one crushing: because the palm kernel is relatively large and hard, in order to better improve the oil yield, it needs to be crushed first. Secondary crushing: mainly to break the palm kernel into small pieces for easy palm oil extraction.
(3) Palm Kernel Shell Separation Machine:
Both wet separation and dry separation are available. Which separation method to use mainly depends on the processing capacity of palm kernels, the cleanliness of separation, and the customer’s financial situation;
(4) Palm Kernel Drying Machine:
Fresh palm kernels contain 20% moisture, and the moisture content of palm kernels must be reduced to less than 7% in order to store them;
(5) Palm Kernel Steaming and Frying Machine:
Mainly through heating and steaming and frying, the palm kernel can achieve good oil production conditions, so that more high-quality palm kernel oil can be obtained;
(6) Palm Kernel Oil Press Machine:
The palm kernel oil press is the same as the conventional oil press and can be used in general. Through pressing, we can get crude palm kernel oil (CPKO).
(7) Palm Kernel Oil Filtration Machine:
Crude palm kernel oil contains a lot of impurities, and palm kernel oil filtration machine can enable us to obtain higher quality palm kernel oil.

Huatai’s palm kernel oil pressing and extraction production line can flexibly adjust the process according to the characteristics of the palm kernel: For palm kernels with high shell content, the kernel-shell separation link is strengthened, and multi-stage vibrating screens and wind sorting devices are added to control the shell residue residue rate below 3%; If the moisture content of the palm kernel fluctuates greatly (such as freshed palm fruit harvested in the rainy season), a drum dryer and humidity linkage control system can be configured to automatically adjust the drying temperature (60-100℃) to avoid protein denaturation caused by excessive heating.
The palm kernel oil pressing section supports stepless adjustment of the screw shaft speed to adapt to kernels with different fiber contents; the solvent ratio and extraction time of the extraction section can be set in stages to balance the oil yield and oil flavor.
For example, our customers from Congo selected the “pre-pressing + secondary extraction” combination to increase the oil yield to 22% in response to the low oil content of local palm kernels.

To build a palm kernel oil extraction plant, three practical problems need to be solved first:
1) The raw material collection is recommended to be controlled within 15min to avoid long-distance transportation causing kernel mold;
2) The site needs to be equipped with a simple rainproof shed to prevent palm kernels from being piled up in the open air and absorbing moisture;
3) A kernel storage silo with a capacity of at least 5 tons is required (it can be replaced by a galvanized iron silo).
